Merrimac Soccer Club
Philosophy
The club is a large group
of volunteers that ensure that soccer happens
in Merrimac.
Why? Because we love it.
- We love kids;
- We love soccer;
- We know that putting
the two together is a great way to develop kids both physically and emotionally;
- Oh yes, the kids love
it to.
What does the
club do?
While our focus is on kids,
we manage and maintain town fields for all ages. This includes direct implementation
of the U8, U10 programs as well as coordination for Pentucket Youth
Soccer and adult leagues.
Does it sound like much?
Consider some of the things that get done before anyone steps on the field:
- Some folks show
up at the fields at 6:30 A.M every Saturday morning to check
for glass and paint the lines. They actually sweep the fields if there is
standing water;
- A registrar organizes
and files applications, checks, and birth certificates from about 300 kids;
- U8, U10 and Town
Directors design age-appropriate programs that take into account things
like emotional and physical development. They organize rosters, coaches,
and sometimes refs and they deal will all issues that come up;
- The equipment manager
ensures that every team has things like balls, gloves, goalie shirts, and
medical kits;
- Other folks think about
parking and the porta-john;
- Others organize youth
summer camps and schedule field time for adult and youth team practices
and games;
- A treasurer pays for
camps, league fees, referees, equipment, the web site, the phone, etc;
- We answer emails and
phone calls about everything you can imagine;
- Someone even maintains
this silly web site.
